🏺 Traditional ancient recipe
🌿 Mild natural scent
🤍 Great for the sensitive skin

Made in the ancient city of Aleppo, the recipe for Aleppo soap is centuries old. It only contains two natural ingredients, olive oil and laurel oil, and was crafted in a UNESCO World Heritage Site according to tradition. This Aleppo soap is cold-processed, and contains 40% laurel oil. This sets it apart from more common Aleppo soap variations which are hot processed, and usually contain lower percentages of laurel oil. It ensures the nutrients of the oils are better preserved in the soap, and the high concentration of laurel oil makes it especially suitable for the sensitive or inflamed skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Aleppo soap for my hair?

Yes! Aleppo soap is a natural and gentle hair cleanser, made with olive oil and laurel oil, free from harsh chemicals that can strip the scalp of its natural oils. Its moisturizing properties help nourish the scalp and combat dryness, making it a great option for those looking for a more hydrating alternative to conventional shampoos.

Additionally, the antibacterial and antifungal benefits of laurel oil support scalp health and may help alleviate dandruff and irritation.

When it might not be suitable:

While Aleppo soap is great for many, it may leave some residue or buildup in hard water areas and is not ideal for all hair types, especially very fine or color-treated hair.

How to Use Aleppo Soap on Hair:

1️⃣ Lather the Soap – Wet your hair and rub the bar in your hands to create a lather.
2️⃣ Massage Gently – Apply the lather to your scalp and hair, massaging thoroughly.
3️⃣ Rinse Well – Ensure all soap is washed out completely to avoid any residue.
4️⃣ Condition if Needed – If your hair feels dry, use a light conditioner or natural oil like argan or jojoba.

What is Lye and is it still in the soap?

Lye is another word for a chemical called Sodium Hydroxide.

This chemical can be found in the ash of burned hardwood, which is what was originally used to make the first soap bars in history.

Nowadays however, we use a purified lye to produce better, higher quality soap. This technically is not a fully natural ingredient.

This chemical is essential for soapmaking and cannot be eliminated.

It is responsible for triggering the saponification process, which is the chemical reaction that turns the fats into soap.

During the curing of the soap bars, the lye disappears from the soap because it is used up by this saponification process.

Therefore, the end product that you buy will not have any more lye in it.

THE INGREDIENTS

  • Olive Oil

Tradition cold-pressed olive oil is naturally rich in vitamin E, and creates a mild, gentle, pleasantly smelling and conditioning soap.

  • Laurel Oil

Laurel oil is an effective cleanser, with some antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-itching properties. This gives the soap it's cleansing power and makes it effective for sensitive skin.

  • Lye

Originally gathered from wood ashes, but nowadays sold in its purified form, natrium hydroxide (lye) is essential for soap making. However the soap will not contain any more lye when its cured.
